Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility for Vista and Server Longhorn
tagged .Longhorn, .Software and Windows VistaMicrosoft made available of restore utility for Windows Vista and Server Longhorn who did migrate from Windows XP or 2003 and want to restore the computer.
This download is a utility that runs on Windows Vista and Windows Server Codename “Longhorn” to restore older backups, made using the “NT Backup” application on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003. NT Backup has been replaced in Windows Vista or Windows Server Codename “Longhorn” with different applications, which are not compatible with the .bkf files that NT Backup created.
You can use this utility if you made a backup using an older version of Windows, and now want to restore files from that backup on to a computer running Windows Vista or Windows Server Codename “Longhorn”. The utility requires that you also enable the Removable Storage Manager feature (see below).
The restore utility is available here.
Server ‘Longhorn’ may get official name around Beta3
tagged .LonghornBack to year 2005 when Microsoft announced the official name of Longhorn client, Windows Vista. The speculation on the name of Longhorn server is begin and the most believed it should named as Windows Server 2007. By follow the same trend of Windows Server 2003. The name “Windows Server 2007″ still floating around. Lately, Redmondmag referring to the post on ActiveWin reported that Microsoft confirmed the official name of Window Server “Longhorn”, Windows Server 2007. It continued with “Microsoft spokesperson “strongly” cautioned against reporting an official name until Microsoft actually announces it. However, the spokesperson also pointed to a blog entry from July 27, 2005 — the date that Longhorn Beta 1 was released — for further reference. That posting stated the company’s intention to name the final release “Windows Server 200x“. The post of Julius Sinkevicius can be found here inwhich he stated the name.
Helene said on Windows Server Division Weblog that the possible name will never be Vista Server and also pointed to what David stated last year. She also continues with “So, if I were going to bet on a name, I’d say tune in when we release Beta 3 and you’ll find out“. Do you get a clue?

No Server Longhorn December 2006 CTP for MSDN/Technet this moment
tagged .Longhorn, dec ctp, Server longhorn and windows severYesterday Microsoft released December CTP build 6001 but for this moment it only available via Connect site. I look at my Technet but Dec CTP not already there for download? what’s happened then? David from Windows Sever teams explained on this post:
“Why isn’t it up on our download site?” Well, you probably heard about the inclement weather we had up here in the Pacific Northwest over the last week, which damaged power lines throughout the region and left lots of people (and the Microsoft campus) without power for a few days. The truth is that we wanted to get the CTP up on MSDN at the same time as Connect, but there were still some internal systems down, so we weren’t able to get them done together. However, we will get this new CTP to our MSDN and TechNet subscribers as soon as we can - I would guess about a week, so hang in there!
So take some time off for the holidays (I’m on vacation myself in Ireland this week) and relax with family and friends - your CTP should be waiting for you when you get back!
So keep waiting until the holiday is ended. May be that time I need to go south for my sister’s wedding party. And then I will be here after the new year.
