FeedDemon 2.5 RC2 (Build 2.5.0.7)

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

My favorites RSS reader client, FeedDemon, update the new version 2.5 Release Candidate 2 Build 2.5.0.7. Well, after testing with RC1 I see not much change over stable version 2.1, only noticeable things are changed style and more sluggish performance. Below is top five new features in 2.5:

  • Synchronized news bins with shared RSS feeds
  • Prefetch unread items for offline reading (File|Prefetch Unread Items)
  • Rewritten “Popular Topics” feature
  • Embedded videos now display in newspapers
  • “Who’s linking here?” added to each post in a newspaper

More additional features and release notes for 2.5 RC2 can be found , download link available  (or direct ).

Internet Explorer 8.0: short info from MIX07

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

The Future of Internet Explorer session at MIX 07 didn’t give us the shape of future version of Internet Explorer. As Chris Wilson, platform architect of Internet Explorer, said he is not allowed to speak but still some hints.

Let’s try to sort out some things and re-organize.

  • Security is #1 priority. From my view, I didn’t see the chance that Microsoft will add new security feature but more likely to improve its anti-Phishing feature, protected mode and ActiveX control. Microsoft now open new space for ActiveX-related security issue with its new Silverlight.
  • More standards-complaint. Here is real issue that IE got blamed. The web standard expert always said IE is far from standard while Microsoft thinking about million sites out there that never following the standard. It’s Microsoft start to break million sites this time.
  • IE 8.0 more compliant with CSS 2.1 layout standards. The second web browser, first is Opera as always, that will support CSS 2.1 *Draft*.
  • IE 8.0 object model more interoperable with other browsers.
  • APIs to support local storage for mash-ups.

There is no announced schedule release of IE 8.0 but expecting that it would be release some time in 2008. From Wilson, each new version will slipped from 12-18 months to 2 years circle. I guess, IE 8.0 will have native support of Microsoft SilverLight in some manner.

CPUCool and Vista Gadget

Friday, April 27th, 2007

I am always looking for a Vista sidebar gadget to monitor CPU temp and fan speed but it never available on Gadget Gallery. The most CPU utilities related stuff are the duplicate CPU monitor gadget. Thanks to Dave for

I did Live search and found . CPU Cool is small software/utility cost $17.95, which come with a lot cool features. It can monitor CPU temp and Fan speed together on what I need, a Vista gadget.

CPUCool Sidebare gadget

The limitation is it only support Vista 32-bit and Sidebar gadget is just a plain gadget, no any style was applied. To note, after setting display data to Vista sidebar you need to add it manually to sidebar.

Photoshop CS3: Restore Down Windows not support Aero Glass

Friday, April 27th, 2007

I was just install Adobe Photoshop CS3 yesterday for a new taste. The new design and features is expressive at first sign while the installation time is the hell for me (it’s took up nearly a hour — badly when comparing to installation time of Windows Vista).

The performance of CS3 on my computer is acceptable but one problem which exist on CS2 still there on CS3.

Photoshop CS3 on Vista

I expecting that the “restore down windows” will support Aero Glass effect of Windows Vista but the actual result is the ugly Classic (theme) while the main Photoshop Windows is Glass supported.

Well, do you get the same result as me?
